THE YORUBA CULTURE OF ASO EBI (GROUP UNIFORM) IN SOCIO-ETHICAL CONTEXT

A distinguished feature of Africaness is the spirit of oneness manifesting in "we feeling", live and let live, serious concern for others and fraternity.i This is born out unavoidable interaction with other members of the society.In other words, no man is an island.As opined by Mbiti "I am because we are and since we are I am." It follows that individualism of the Western world is alien to Africa. Among the Yoruba,one of the ways of expressing unity is the practice of Aso ebi— group uniform, which has from time immemorial been institutionalised.
